Take a look around

First off, does anyone out there read this site who is not a telemarketing/spamming spawn of the devil hisself? If so, please let yourself be known. Constructive criticism is always welcome, as is flagrant tomfoolery. Translation - comment you lurking scum!

Second off, the next time you sit down at the table, whether the felt is real or virtual, take a look around at the people next to you, or in the case of internet gamboling, the avatars. Try to figure out what it is that drives them to play the game, and then try to figure out what drives you. If you can, you just may find that your results will take a turn for the best.

total hands: 1197
amt won: 176.15
bb/100: 2.41

Much better numbers. Well not better, more like "representative." My biggest problems right now are a) refusing to end except on a high note (not losing), and b) not taking breaks for food or pee. It should be criminal to sit here for 5 straight hours and grind through the tables like so much work.

Anyway my colleague has decided to abandon his blogchild so I am your new lord and master for the time being. Swear to me!

I had one of the best poker days ever today.

total hands: 1008
amt won: 655.25
BB/100: 10.83
win rate: ~20%

First of all, having a win rate of anything over 16% is incredible at the 6-man tables, even with the amount of SH I play. Secondly, I managed to pull AA 4 times, KK 3 times, QQ a whopping NINE times, and AK 13 times. Most of my aces were winners as well. I had a few very sloppy hands but the deck kept hitting me in the face enough so it didn't matter. I hit trips a few numerous times and a few straights and flushes that were paid off.

Basically this is an entire day of high variance, which I don't mind, certainly, but I should definitely learn to expect it and deal with the days that will undoubtedly be much, much worse.

Okay enough gloating.

edit (3am):

total hands: 1610
amt won: 776.50
BB/100: 8.04
win rate: ~20%

I got punked HU by this one guy who robbed me of 150 in 37 hands. Ugh. I think I won a single hand against him.

QTo and 88 are huge losers for me. :/

Sit N'Gos can sometimes stink

I've monied in 8 out of my last 10 Sit N' Gos. Unfortunately that includes 6 Third Places and 2 seconds. THis would prove that ROI% (return on investment) is more important than ITM$ (in the money). But then again, a monkey could've told you that, and probably flung poo at your face as well.

In other news, I am making a concious effort to be less of an ass at the tables. THis after reading this excerpt from an interview with Daniel Negreanu.

You talk about your wild days, but you recently found Jesus?

Yeah. I've always been a logical person, I always wanted proof of everything. But I read this book called Case for Christ and that was that.

Has it improved your game?

I'm a happier person. If you look at the timeline of my results, finding my faith and my big wins coincide. There's less bitterness in my heart, there's no anger or venom or jealousy -- I can just focus on poker. You've got to realize that when you're doing poorly, it's often based on your mental state. If you're having trouble in your life it's virtually impossible to do well at poker.

So...I may not be ready to go down that path completely right now, but at least I can take some part of that and apply it to my game and to my life, and stop calling people cunts and phags.

fuck all you haters

Poker's still fun as long as it's kept in moderation. I've been playing 1-3 hours at a time on random nights, and I'm aiming for 3 times a week. Usually I can come out +40 or 50 at the 1/2 tables without too much trouble, which justifies spending money on food. Now if only my gym ethic was just as good.

I'd play tournaments but I suck. And they're slow and boring. Yeah the payoff is good but I like to play hands ok
